Lily Chang was re-elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) at the 30th Constitutional Convention in 2023. She is the first worker of East Asian descent to be elected to office at the CLC. Apart from overseeing the organization’s finances, Lily is responsible for guiding the work of the Human Rights Department and representing CLC at the International Labor Organization with a seat on the Governing Body. Lily started her career as a social services caseworker, where she saw firsthand how inequality and racism were linked to poverty. These disparities fueled her interest in labour work, and she spent over three decades advocating for members at CUPE Local 79, including 13 years as the local’s Treasurer. Lily holds a degree in psychology from the University of Toronto.
