2slgbtq+ programming goes virtual

January 15, 2024

The pandemic had the potential to make queer youth in Nova Scotia feel more isolated than ever – potentially cutting off support systems and friends outside the home. Seeing this, United Way Halifax invested in Youth Project, an organization dedicated to making Nova Scotia a safer, healthier and happier place for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Youth Project shifted from offering drop-in events, social spaces and in-person support sessions to online programming.

Donations to the Local Love in a Global Crisis helped the Youth Project develop and deliver engaging online programming and support sessions for youth, creating meaningful connections with peers and access to supportive and affirming online spaces where they can be themselves. It’s also expanded their reach, especially to youth in rural locations, ensuring that more youth who need help are able to access it.
